The Corvette of SRT Racing Team was fastest in today’s free practice at the Algarve. Championship leader Maxime Soulet and his new team mate Isaac Tutumlu posted a time of 1.47.492 in the second session that left the second-fastest car (and fastest among GTS), the AF Corse Ferrari of Michele Rugolo and Claudio Sdanewitsch, half a second behind in the cumulative rankings. Rugolo had topped the overall rankings in the morning’s session.
With less than three tenths between second and fifth, gaps were very close: the two V8 Corvettes of Ramos-Pastorelli and Sijthoff-Hamilton took 3rd and 4th spot ahead of the SMP Racing Ferrari of Aicart-Maleev. The other SMP car of Zampieri-Mavlanov had dominated the two hours of private testing before the official free practice.
No incidents were to report today in a warm and windy day under overcast skies. 19 cars are eventually present in Portugal, with Drivex being the most notable last-minute absentee and the AF Ferrari of Thomas Flohr-Francesco Castellacci the last entry.
