With warm and pleasant weather, the Hungaroring welcomed the GT Open for the Friday free practice session and threw very close results which point to a big battle in qualifying and the races this weekend.
The SRT Corvette of Maxime Soulet and Isaac Tutumlu was the fastest car in the morning, posting a time of 1.46.082 that remained unbeaten in the warmer afternoon session. Alvaro Barba and Alan Sicart on the lone Ombra Racing Ferrari were very fast today, taking second-fastest in the morning and managing to improve in the afternoon (1.46.208) when they topped the rankings. They were obviously the fastest car in GTS.
In the cumulative results, the two SMP Racing Ferraris of Mavlanov-Zampieri and Aicart-Maleev took P3 and P4, with the latter being the second-fastest GTS car, ahead of the AF Ferrari of Castellacci-Flohr.
The V8 Corvette of Hamilton-Sijthoff, 4th fastest in the morning, suffered a heavy crash, with the Dutchman at the wheel, in the final moments of the session, when he hit heavily the barriers in the fast right-hander. Severely damages, the car is not reparable but the team is sending a spare car from the Netherlands for tomorrow.
