Beautiful late summer weather welcomed the GT Open on Friday at Spa-Francorchamps for the two one-hour free practice sessions. Home atmosphere seemed particularly fitting for Belgian squad SRT whose Corvette C6ZR1 driven by Hamilton-Tutumlu was the fastest car of the day, with a time of 2.21.751 posted in the afternoon session, much faster than the first one which had seen local hero Maxime Soulet (V8 Racing) fastest.
The SRT Corvette preceded the SMP Ferrari of Mavlanov-Zampieri by one full second, with Camathias-Beretta taking an excellent third on the Autorlando Porsche, which ended the day at the top of the GTS rankings, ahead of the Ombra Ferrari of Costantini-Gattuso, the fastest GTS car in the morning. To be noted that Stefano Costantini is making his come-back after his accident in Jerez. Newcomers Pasin Lathouras-Richard Lloyd (AF Corse Ferrari) were fifth overall, while the all-feminine line-up of Michelle Gatting-Suzanne Weidt concluded 12th.
The Villorba Corse Ferrari of Montermini-Schirò suffered gearbox and clutch problems throughout the day, while Roman Mavlanov (SMP Racing) hit the barriers in session 2 with some damage.
