The 2017 International GT Open will see the competitive debut of the new Lexus RC F GT3, which is being unveiled today to the European press and public at the Geneva Motor Show.
In a media release, the Japanese car maker stated: “Lexus is increasing its focus on motorsports in 2017 with the RC F GT3, aiming to strengthen the performance image of its brand with a growing audience of race enthusiasts worldwide”.
The all-new car, recently homologated by the FIA, is to participate in racing championships in USA and Japan, while in Europe the car will compete in selected races, including the GT Open, as part of the project’s development.
Two cars will be entered by two different teams, Germany’s Farnbacher Racing and Switzerland’s Emil Frey Racing, the two teams which competed in the VLN Endurance Series last year with prototype versions of the RC F GT3, clinching one win, the first by an Asian carmaker. The driver line-ups of the two teams will be revealed shortly.
Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport: “We are extremely happy to welcome a prestigious brand such as Lexus in the GT Open, and proud that our series has been selected for the next step of the RC F GT3 project’s development in Europe. Without doubt, the presence of the new Lexus RC F GT3 and two very professional teams such as Farnbacher Racing and Emil Frey Racing will further enrich the level of competition in a 2017 season that promises to be extremely exciting.”
