Malucelli takes pole ahead of direct title rivals

The big fight is served! Race 1 in Barcelona this afternoon promises to be extremely exciting, as the four title contenders topped Qualifying 1 this morning, in a day which sees overcast skies and cooler temperatures.

Matteo Malucelli took the pole (1.16.440) on the Villois Aston. The car co-driven by Alvaro Barba stands third in the championship, 22 points (exactly the reward for a win) behind points leaders Gimmi Bruni. The AF Corse Ferrari co-driven by Federico Leo will be in first row today, just ahead of its main rival, the Manthey Racing Porsche of Nick Tandy-Marco Holzer, with the Brit posting the 3rd-fastest time. The Villorba Ferrari of Lopez-Montermini, which still has a mathematical chance but is 42 points behind, was fourth-fastest with the Italian.

In GTS, the new-coming Aston of Belgian outfit GPR Racing, with Maxime Martin at the wheel, took a fantastic pole and fifth overall.
